Is it Absolutely necessary to have a menopause certified provider?
The certification from The Menopause Society is a nice to have but not a must have. Many talented providers are practicing without this certification. Their patients are often happy, healthy and thriving.
Seeking a Menopause Society certified provider simply guarantees that you are matching with a provider that is likely more open to prescribing hormones to treat your symptoms. That doesn’t mean another provider won’t be able to assist you. We have experienced this firsthand.
We had the privilege of connecting with a RN, CNM who has been working with women through the menopause transition for decades. She does not have a certification through The Menopause Society, yet she is one of the most knowledgeable people we have encountered in this space.
The key is to interview your potential provider. Are they listening? Are they asking good questions? Do they offer a consultative approach? Are they answering your questions without judgement? Do they only offer one formula for prescribing? Do they offer treatment options? i.e. is their toolbox full?
